TM: Chinese come over here now is all talk about wine and wine selling in China is really expensive, the BC wine has become more and more popular in Asia. What makes a great wine?
TinaM: ?????????????????????????900?????????????????
HMcW: First, wine is a reflection of time and place, and what influence it is soil and climate. And then it is the matter of what wine maker dose after the grapes are delivered. The reality is, wine is created in the vineyard, and it is really about the climate and soil.

TM: With your experience, explain the soil and climate, how does it make into a great wine for us to make BC wine to get even more famous?
TinaM: ?????????50????????????????????????????????Okanagan, ?????????
HMcW: In South Okanagan, it is a very unique climatic setting. First of all, we get more hoursof sunlight than any other place in North America, and we get more light intensitythan any viticulture region in the world. In additional to that, we get more degree of growing days, which is what really helps grapes to develop in places like Napa Valleys and Sonoma Valleys. We are in a rainshadow, we get less than 6 inches of annual precipitation, and it is our average.

TM: How about the soil? The soil in Okanagan, what is so special about it?
TinaM: Okanagan???????????
HMcW: It is actually different in several different areas in Okanagan. Where we have our vineyard is a very unique site, in fact it is all glacial flow. So we have a minimal of 300c of sand, which means when we put irrigation on, the moisture goes through the root profile, and it means when a plant needs to drink, we have to give it a drink. We get to control the exactly the balance and the growth burst at exactly the right time to get exceptional high quality fruits.
HMcW: ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
TM:Because of the wine is being produced in that area, has it been getting a lot of the award and recognition?
TinaM: ???????????????????????????????
HMcW: Definitely! Our Vineyard is the single most awarded Vineyard in the country, it has gotten more awards from the wines that have been created from these grapes than any other vineyard in Canada. In addition to that, many trophies for best grapes verity, the best white wine, the best red wine, so we come home with best of class, best of show, best of verity. And certainly, the wine judging community has recognized out small growing region as one of the most outstanding in the world.

TM: A lot of Asian just come here to invest, what do they have to be careful?
TinaM: ??????????????????????????????????
HMcW: They have to be really careful that if they don’t know, they need somebody to give them guidance, who has got years of experience in the business to be able to pick the right site that will grow the right verities. If they are coming here to buy a vineyard, site selection is the most important thing in any vineyard. Another thing is to buy a winery, the winery should have the ability to make fine wines that will meet the market demand whether it would be in Canada or in Asia. Those are really important factors, so they have to depend on people that actually do understand the business here and have credibility within the industry.
